NOTE: The illustration shows the flywheel, the tightening sequence and bolt arrangement for the faceplate are the same.
Removal
1. Remove the cover and disconnect the ground cable from the battery. Refer to procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging System - General Information, Specifications).
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
WARNING: Ensure that the vehicle is supported securely.
3. Remove the transmission and torque converter. Refer to procedure: Transmission - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4 (307-01 Automatic/Transaxle Transmission, Installation).
4. Special tool: 303-1272. Tightening torque: Step 1: 33 Nm. Step 2: 34°

Clean mating surfaces from foreign material. Use new bolts. Tighten bolts in the sequence shown.
Installation
When installing, perform the removal procedure in reverse order.
