NOTE: The steps described in this procedure may be included in the installation procedure.
NOTE: Illustrations may differ in some details, but the fundamental points are completely true.
Removal
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
WARNING: Do not work on a vehicle supported solely by a jack. Always place safety stands under the vehicle.
2. Tightening torque: 25 Nm

3.
NOTE: Vehicles with Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)

4.
NOTE: Mark the location of the hoses.

5.

6. Tightening torque: 10 Nm
NOTE: All vehicles

7. It may be necessary to insert a suitable tool between the shaft shoulder and the actuator rod and rock it from side to side.
Do not apply force that may deform the variable geometry turbocharger drive shaft components.
When removing the variable geometry turbocharger drive shaft, do not apply rotational force as this may damage the worm gear.

8. Using your finger, move the variable geometry turbocharger actuator to ensure that there is sufficient travel. Move it 10-20 times to ensure sufficient travel.
NOTE: Movement may be difficult at first due to carbon build-up.

9. Use a penetrating spray if necessary.
CAUTION: Do not apply excessive force or leverage to the crank arm as this may deform the crank arm or damage the turbine mechanism.

10. Apply light penetrating grease to the turbocharger and drive studs. Clean the stud surfaces.
NOTE: Very fine wet and dry paper may be required for polishing and corrosion removal.

Installation
1. Apply the recommended high temperature grease (Land Rover part number LR029042) to both studs, taking care to ensure they are completely coated.

2. Apply recommended high temperature grease (Land Rover part number LR029042) to the inner surface of the bushing contacting the turbocharger.

3. Install the components in the reverse order of disassembly.
NOTE: Install new mounting clips.
NOTE: Using a suitable tool, rotate the new fasteners in the slots to ensure proper installation.
NOTE: Apply protective grease to drive studs and drive joints.
