Checking the oil level in the transfer case (Freelander 2)

CAUTION: The filler plug is not a fluid level check plug.

1. Raise the car on a lift.

WARNING: Ensure that the vehicle is supported securely.

2. Remove the lower engine cover. Refer to procedure: Engine Cover (501-02 Front Body Panels, Removal and Installation).

CAUTION: Clean the area around the element and remove any foreign material.

4. Fill the transmission with the recommended fluid until the level reaches the filler hole. Drain 120 mm to obtain the correct fluid volume as described in the specifications section. Refer to procedure: Specifications (308-07B Transfer Case, Specifications).

CAUTION: The filler plug is not a fluid level check plug.

5. Screw in the filler plug. Tightening torque: 35 Nm

CAUTION: Replace washer.

6. Install the lower engine guard. Refer to procedure: Engine Guard (501-02 Front Body Panels, Removal and Installation).
