The parking brake switch allows the driver to engage and disengage the parking brake. This switch is located on the center console next to the gearshift lever.
The slots on the edges of the parking brake switch engage the upper panel of the center console, and a screw secures the parking brake switch. An electrical connector on the back of the switch is used to connect to the vehicle's electrical system. The brake symbol on the switch illuminates when the vehicle's exterior lights are on.
The parking brake switch has three states:
- Request to engage when the parking brake switch handle is pulled up.
- Request to turn off when the parking brake switch handle is pressed down.
- Idle mode, when the parking brake switch handle is in the center, or home, position.
Microswitches built into the parking brake switch are activated by the parking brake switch handle. The parking brake control unit checks the microswitch circuits to determine the status of the parking brake switch.
