The number plate is riveted under the hood in the engine compartment.
Models for Australia, UK, Europe. A. Date of manufacture (Australia); compliance with current regulations.; B. Identification number.; C. Maximum permitted weight.; D. Maximum weight of vehicle with trailer.; E. Maximum front axle load.; F. Maximum load on the rear axle.
The number is also stamped on the right front wheel suspension bracket.
The identification number identifies the manufacturer, engine type, wheelbase, body type, steering, transmission, year of manufacture, etc., for example: SAL - Manufacturer's Identifier; LH - ROVER Model or; U - Discovery Model; G - 100-inch (2540 mm) wheelbase; B - three-door; F - 300 Tdi (diesel) or; V - V8i (petrol)

A - Made in Solihall
On European models, the VIN is stamped on the frame near the right rear wheel.

On US models, the federal identification number plate is affixed to the top of the "A" pillar so that it is visible through the vehicle's front window.
Location of unit numbers
- 300 Tdi: stamped on the block on the right side above the front camshaft cover plate MPi: stamped on the right side of the block, next to the gearbox
- V8i: stamped on the block lug between cylinders 3 and 5.
Please note: the compression ratio value is stamped above the engine number.

R380 gearbox
The number is stamped on the lug in the lower right part of the crankcase.

LT230 Transfer Case
The number is stamped on the left side of the crankcase below the primary shaft bearing housing.

Front and rear axle
The number is stamped on the top of the left pipe.
Automatic transmission
The number is riveted to the lower left side of the crankcase.
