Inspection and verification
1. Ensure that the customer's complaint is justified.
2. Visually inspect for obvious mechanical and electrical problems.
3. Make sure there is no dirt on the sensor surface that may interfere with its operation.
| Mechanical factors | Electrical factors |
4. If an obvious cause for the problem you identified or the customer described is found, resolve it before moving on to further action. (if possible).
5. Use the approved diagnostic system or scan tool to retrieve all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) before performing the self-test or DTC index.

Clear all DTCs after troubleshooting.
On-board self-test
Self-testing, which is an element of the system strategy, informs the driver of any malfunctions using LEDs and sound signals:
- The system status LED flashes when the system is active and a fault is detected in the sensors, speakers, wiring, or module.
- If a malfunction is detected in the rear speaker, an error signal will sound from the front speaker for three seconds.
- If a malfunction is detected in the rear sensors, the switch built into the LED switch, or in the event of a CAN bus signal transmission error, an error signal will sound from the rear speaker for three seconds.
DTC Index
NOTE: Generic scan tools cannot read the codes listed or can only read 5-digit codes. Match the 5 digits from the scan tool with the first 5 digits of the listed 7-digit code to identify the fault. (the last 2 digits provide additional information readable by a manufacturer approved diagnostic system).
