Review


Data from other subsystem modules is sent to the instrument cluster in the form of CAN messages. The instrument cluster identifies the signals and displays the corresponding message in the message center. Most messages are accompanied by a beep or a series of beeps, which are requested by the module generating the message. The driver can view current system status messages via the instrument cluster software by pressing and holding the route data reset button for more than 3 seconds, then the information display will show the current messages in priority order. Vehicle Configuration File (CCF)


NOTE: If a new instrument cluster is to be fitted, the Instrument Cluster Replacement procedure must be carried out using an approved diagnostic system. This will ensure that the CCF data is correctly transferred from the Central Junction Box (CJB) to the replacement instrument cluster. If the vehicle is serviced from the original factory specification, the CCF will also require updating using an approved diagnostic system. This may include non-standard wheels and/or tyres fitted by the dealer and optional electrical interface accessories such as Park Distance Control.


The CCF contains all relevant data about the specification and sales status of the relevant vehicle, immobilisation codes and driver personalisation settings. This information is stored in the CJB, Engine Control Module (ECM) and Instrument Cluster, allowing each system module to detect which systems and components are fitted to the vehicle. Information is continuously transferred between these three system modules, ensuring seamless data redundancy between the modules.



Inspection and verification


1. Ensure that the customer's complaint is justified.

2. Confirm which, if any, warning lights and/or messages are illuminated/displayed on the instrument cluster. For a list of messages, refer to the workshop manual, section 413-08, "Message Center".

3. Visually inspect for obvious electrical problems.

  • 4. If an obvious cause for the problem you identified or the customer described is found, resolve it before moving on to further action. (if possible).

    5. Use the approved diagnostic system or scan tool to retrieve all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) before accessing the DTC Index.

    Clear all DTCs after troubleshooting.

    NOTE: Generic scan tools cannot read the codes listed or can only read 5-digit codes. Match the 5 digits from the scan tool with the first 5 digits of the listed 7-digit code to identify the fault. (the last 2 digits provide additional information readable by a manufacturer approved diagnostic system).
