General information
The car is equipped with two sound signals - high-pitched and low-pitched. The horns are mounted on brackets attached to the front cross member assembly on both sides of the radiator.
The horns are activated by pressing one of the two switches located on both sides of the driver's airbag on the steering wheel.
Horns are also used by the car's anti-theft system. When the anti-theft system requests chirps, the central distribution unit (CJB) closes the solenoid of the horn relay to the ground circuit, the relay contacts close, which leads to the supply of battery voltage to the horns. For more information refer to Anti-Theft - Active (419-01A Anti-Theft - Active)
Battery voltage is constantly applied to the horn circuit, so the horns can work at any time, regardless of the position of the ignition key.
Sound signals are controlled by a relay built into the CJB. The circuit connecting the contact and the electromagnet of the relay with the vehicle battery is equipped with a fusible link (17E) in the battery junction box and fuse (F12) in the CJB block. Pressing the horn switches closes the relay ground circuit, and the electromagnet is energized. The electromagnet closes the relay contact and battery voltage is applied to both horns. When the switch is released, the solenoid ground circuit opens, the solenoid turns off and the relay contacts open, cutting off power to the horns.
