All major accessories are driven by a single 6-strand belt. A separate 8-strand belt is used to drive the cooling fan.
Both the main and auxiliary belts are driven from the crankshaft through a vibration damper. Belt tension is maintained by an automatic tensioner mounted on the left accessory bracket. The idler belt pulley mounted on the right accessory bracket increases the wrap angle of the alternator pulley.
The rubber layer located between the two cylindrical surfaces of the vibration damper absorbs torsional vibrations of the crankshaft and shock loads in the drive.
The automatic tensioner consists of a spring-loaded lever with an intermediate pulley located on it. To remove and install the belt, the tensioner lever is retracted counterclockwise (when viewed from the front of the engine). There is a belt wear indicator on the back of the tensioner arm.
