Deployment of the driver's airbag removed from the vehicle (Freelander 1)

This instruction manual is designed to assist authorized service personnel in safely performing the deployment and disposal procedure for seat belt pretensioners removed from a vehicle

Seat belt pretensioner activation

CAUTION: Do not perform any work on the SRS system until you have read the relevant sections of this Manual.

1. Follow all safety rules when working with the airbag system

GENERAL INFORMATION, Forced deployment of the SRS component.

2. Remove the airbag module from the steering wheel.

PASSIVE SAFETY SYSTEMS, REPAIR WORK, Driver's airbag.

3. Check the condition of the LRT-86-003 device and the cables supplied with it.



4. Clamp the LRT-86-007-02 bracket in a vice. The jaws of the vice should clamp the bracket above the lower flange to prevent the bracket from moving upward under the influence of detonation. Tighten the vice.

5. Secure the airbag to the LRT-86-007-02 bracket using both LRT-86-007-05 fasteners.

6. Make sure the air bag module support bracket is securely fastened.

CAUTION: Make sure the device is not connected to the battery.

7. Connect the electrical cable LRT-86-003-08 of the device to the airbag module.



8. Connect the LRT-86-003-08 electrical cable to the LRT-86-003 fixture.

9. Connect the LRT-86-003 device to the battery.

CAUTION: Make sure all people are at least 15 m away from the air bag module.

10. To activate the airbag, press the power button on the device body.

CAUTION: When deployed, parts of the air bag become very hot and may cause burns. Wait 30 minutes after deployment before touching the air bag module.

11. Disconnect the electrical cable LRT-86-003-08 of the tool from the airbag module.

12. Wearing gloves and a protective mask, remove the airbag module from the LRT-86-007-02 bracket. Place the airbag in a plastic bag and seal it tightly.

13. Wipe the device with a damp cloth.

14. Dispose of the used airbag module in a designated waste incineration area.

NOTE: Do not transport parts of deployed passive restraint systems in the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

15. DO NOT reuse or recycle SRS system components, including the steering wheel and steering column.
