Anti-roll bars (Freelander 1)

Dismantling

1. Raise the front of the vehicle.

CAUTION: Do not work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle with safety stands.

2. Remove the front wheel.



3. Loosen the nut securing the anti-roll bar to the shock absorber.

CAUTION: Use a wrench and Allen key to prevent the ball joint from rotating when removing the stabilizer link.

4. Discard the nut.

5. Hold the stabilizer bar from turning with a socket wrench, inserting it into the flat grooves. Unscrew the nut securing the stabilizer bar to the stabilizer bar.

6. Discard the nut.

7. Mark the location of the stabilizer bar and remove it.

Installation

1. Clean the anti-roll bar ball joints and their mounting surfaces.

2. Connect the stabilizer link to the stabilizer bar, install a new nut and tighten it to a torque of 55 Nm.

3. Connect the stabilizer bar to the shock absorber, install a new nut and tighten it to a torque of 45 Nm.

4. Make sure that the anti-roll bar struts are positioned correctly.

5. Replace the wheel(s) and tighten the nuts to 115 Nm.

6. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.
