The windscreen wiper and washer operation is controlled by the CJB based on driver commands and signals from the rain sensor. The windscreen wipers have 4 operating states:
- One-time cleaning
- Intermittent/automatic wiping (vehicles with/without rain sensor)
- Low speed cleaning
- High speed cleaning
The "Auto" function requires a signal from the rain sensor. The rain sensor is mounted on the inside surface of the windscreen and transmits an infrared signal to determine the amount of moisture on the outside surface of the windscreen. This value is then transmitted to the CJB via the Local Interconnect Network (LIN) bus.
The CJB also controls the headlamp washers. For more information, please refer to the Headlamp Washers section below.
The rear window wiper system operates independently of the windscreen wiper system and is controlled by the CJB based on LIN bus messages from the right steering column multifunction switch.
NOTE: The front and rear window washers are served by a single pump, meaning that only one washer, front or rear, can be in operation at any given time.
