Rear shock absorber (Freelander 2)

Removal

NOTE: The removal procedure descriptions in this manual may contain installation steps.

1. Raise and support the vehicle.

WARNING: Ensure that the vehicle is supported securely.

2. Remove the shock absorber assembly with the elastic element. Refer to the procedure: Shock Absorber Assembly with Spring (204-02 Rear Suspension, Removal and Installation).

3. Remove the spring.

Always follow the spring compressor manufacturer's operating instructions.

Extreme care must be taken when handling a compressed spring.

NOTE: Install this item in the position noted during removal.

4. Remove the shock absorber rod elements.

Installation

1. Install the shock absorber piston rod dust shield, hard rubber stop and protective boot.



2. Install the spring.

WARNING: Extreme care must be taken when handling a compressed spring.

Install these elements in the position marked during removal. Clean the mating surfaces from foreign material.

3. Install the spring tilt spacer and upper support, screw on the nut, but do not tighten it fully at this stage.

4. Carefully release the spring compression.

5. Tighten the nut. Tightening torque: 80 Nm

6. Install the cover.

7. Install the shock absorber assembly with the elastic element. Refer to the procedure: Shock Absorber Assembly with Spring (204-02 Rear Suspension, Removal and Installation).
