Four ultrasonic sensors are located in the front and rear bumpers. Each sensor contains the sensor itself and a bumper insert. The insert ensures the correct orientation of each sensor relative to its mounting location in the bumper.
Each sensor has a three-pin connector that connects to the bumper wiring harness, which in turn connects to the main body wiring harness. The three pins provide power, ground, and signal to and from the parking aid module.
Each sensor contains a piezoelectric disk in the plastic housing. The disk vibrates at a frequency of 34.8 kHz, generating an ultrasonic signal. In addition, the disc receives reflected echoes from any objects that are within range.
The parking aid module controls the operation of each sensor using a digital output signal on the signal line. The module controls the sensor in one of two modes: combined transmitter and receiver mode or receiver only mode.
