Four ultrasonic sensors are located in the front and rear bumpers. Each sensor contains the sensor itself and a bumper insert. The insert ensures that each sensor is correctly oriented relative to its mounting location in the bumper.
Each sensor has a three-pin connector that connects to the bumper wiring harness, which in turn connects to the main body wiring harness. The three pins provide power, ground, and signal to and from the parking assist module.
Each sensor has a plastic housing that contains a piezoelectric disk. The disk vibrates at a frequency of 34.8 kHz, generating an ultrasonic signal. The disk also receives a reflected echo signal from any objects within its range.
The parking assist module controls the operation of each sensor using a digital output signal via the signal line. The module controls the sensor in one of two modes: combined transmitter and receiver mode or receiver-only mode.
