The TD4 diesel engine fuel system has a high-pressure (HP) and low-pressure circuit to supply sufficient fuel to the engine under all operating conditions. The low-pressure (LP) fuel system includes the following components:
- Saddle shaped plastic fuel tank
- Fuel supply module (with built-in pump in the tank)
- Fuel level sensors
- Fuel supply and return lines
- Fuel filter assembly
NOTE: Fuel is drawn from the fuel tank by a suction pump mounted on the engine. The in-tank pump does not deliver fuel to the engine, but only delivers it through two transfer pumps to keep the fuel in the fuel supply reservoir.
The HP system is a Bosch Generation 3 common rail injection system. For more information, refer to the chapter: Fuel Delivery and Controls (303-04B Fuel Delivery and Controls - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Description and Function).
