Removal



1. Place the vehicle on an inspection pit or lift.

2. Mark the relative positions of the shaft, differential and transfer case flanges.

3. Loosen the mounting nuts and remove the shaft.

4. Inspect the shaft joints, replace if necessary.

5. Wash the crosspiece bearing caps and retaining rings.

Note: To avoid imbalance, mark the position of the compensator grease nipple relative to the hinge fork before removing the length compensator.


6. Remove the retaining rings and unscrew the oiler.

7. Release the crosspiece bearing by striking the hinge fork.

8. Remove the bearings and length compensator.

9. Remove the second fork bearings and crosspiece.



10. Wash the hinge parts.

Assembly



11. Remove the bearing caps from the new crosspiece.

12. Make sure you have a full set of needles.

13. If necessary, fill the bearing with grease to one third of its volume.

14. Install the crosspiece and seals into the flange fork.

15. Partially install one bearing and insert the crosspiece into it.

16. Install the opposite bearing.

17. Press both bearings into the fork.

18. Check that the grooves of the retaining rings are clear. If necessary, press the bearing further. Caution! If the bearing extends significantly beyond the groove, damage to the unit may occur.

19. Install the retaining rings and check for any axial movement of the crosspiece.

20. Repeat steps 14-19 for the length compensator hinge fork.

21. Screw the grease nipple into the joint and compensator.



Installation



22. Install the shaft on the vehicle with the length compensator to the transfer case.

23. Tighten the mounting nuts to a torque of 47 Nm.
