Removal


CAUTION: Before performing any work on the SRS system, read the relevant information carefully.


CAUTION: Always disconnect both battery cables before working on the SRS system. Disconnect the ground cable first. Never connect the battery with the polarity reversed.


NOTE: If replacement of SRS components is required, the bar code of the new part must be recorded.


1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.

2. Secure the SRS system. For more information, refer to the Standard Techniques used at the service station.

3. Remove the driver's airbag module.
  • Use a special tool to release the clamp.
  • Repeat the above procedure on the other side.
  • Disconnect the ground wire.
  • Release the clamps and disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
Release the clamps and disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.





Installation


1.
CAUTION: SRS components have unique electrical connectors. DO NOT force connectors or attempt to connect incorrect connectors.


Install the driver airbag module.
  • Connect the ground wire.
  • Connect the electrical connectors.
2.
CAUTION: The driver airbag module is installed by two clicks, one click each from each of the two springs. The edges of the module should be flush with the steering wheel.


Install the driver airbag module.
  • Align the module with the steering wheel.
  • Make sure that the wires behind the module are not pinched.
  • Align the dowel pins and springs.
