Dismantling

CAUTION: Do not perform any work on the SRS system until you have read the relevant sections of this Manual.

CAUTION: Do not lean over the air bag module when removing, inspecting, or installing it.

1. Follow all safety rules when working with the airbag system.

GENERAL INFORMATION, Rules for working with airbags and seat belt pretensioners.

2. Remove the 2 Torx bolts securing the airbag module to the steering wheel.

3. Remove the airbag module from the steering wheel.

CAUTION: Do not allow the air bag module to hang by the power cable.

4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the airbag module.

5. Remove the airbag module.

CAUTION: Store air bags with the deployment side facing up. If the air bag module is stored with the deployment side facing down, it will be thrown upward with sufficient force if it accidentally deploys to cause serious injury.

Installation

1. Position the airbag module near the steering wheel and connect the electrical connector with the cable facing up.

NOTE: If the airbag module is replaced, the barcode of the new module must be recorded.

2. Install the airbag module to the steering wheel and tighten the Torx bolts to 9 Nm.

3. Connect the battery terminals, the negative terminal first.
