Draining and filling engine oil (Discovery 3)

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. Specification.

2.
CAUTION: Never work on a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle with special stands.


Raise and support the vehicle.

3. Remove the engine protection. Engine protection (76.10.50)

4. Unscrew the oil pan drain plug.
  • Place a container to collect the liquid.
  • Discard the oil drain plug seal.

5. Remove the panel blocking access to the radiator. Unscrew 4 bolts.

6. Remove the oil filter.
  • Place a container to collect the liquid.
  • Discard the oil filter.

7. Install the engine oil filter.


  • Lubricate the oil filter seal with clean engine oil and tighten. (tightening torque 18 Nm).
  • Install a new seal.
  • Tighten the drain plug (tightening torque 25 Nm).
8. Tighten the drain plug. (tightening torque 25 Nm). Install a new seal.

9. Install engine protection. Engine protection (76.10.50)

10. Fill the engine with oil.

11. Check the engine oil level and top up if necessary.

12. Connect the ground cable to the battery. Specification.
