Removal


1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.

2.
CAUTION: Never work on a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle with special stands.

Raise and support the vehicle.

3. Remove the accessory drive belt. For more information, refer to Accessory Drive Belt (86.10.03)

4. Remove the cooling fan shroud.
  • Release the 2 cooling fan shroud clips.
  • Loosen and remove the lower cooling fan shroud from the radiator.
Loosen and remove the lower cooling fan shroud from the radiator.


5. Using special tools, lock the crankshaft pulley.

CAUTION: Under no circumstances should the crankshaft dowel pin, 303-645, be used to lock the crankshaft when performing the following procedure.


NOTE: The crankshaft pulley mounting bolt is very tight.


Remove the crankshaft pulley mounting bolt. Discard the bolt.

7. Remove the special tools.

8. Using special tools, remove the crankshaft pulley. Select the retaining ring.

9. Remove the special tools from the crankshaft pulley.

10. Using the special tool, remove the front crankshaft oil seal.
  • Remove the outer half of the seal.
  • Repeat this process to remove the inner half of the seal.
Repeat this process to remove the inner half of the seal.


11. Inspect the crankshaft damper clutch pulley and snap ring for damage.



Installation


1. Clean all contact surfaces of the crankshaft pulley.

2. Using special tools, install the front crankshaft oil seal.
  • Lubricate the seal with clean engine oil.
  • Use the discarded crankshaft pulley mounting bolt with a special tool.

3. Install the crankshaft pulley. Lubricate the seal with clean engine oil.

4. Install the crankshaft pulley snap ring.

5.
CAUTION: Before installing a new crankshaft pulley bolt, clean the threads in the pulley.


Install the crankshaft pulley bolt, but do not tighten it.

6.
CAUTION: Under no circumstances should the crankshaft dowel pin, 303-645, be used to lock the crankshaft when performing the following procedure.


Using special tools, lock the crankshaft pulley. Tighten the crankshaft pulley mounting bolt. (tightening torque 380 Nm).

7. Remove the special tools.



8. Install the lower cooling fan shroud.

9. Install the accessory drive belt. For more information, refer to Accessory Drive Belt (86.10.03)

10. Connect the ground cable to the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.
