Special tool for fuel vapor recovery system 310-142 |
NOTE: The following procedure will accurately locate a fuel leak indicated by an illuminated Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). This test should only be performed after no apparent faults have been identified with the fuel system components.
1.
CAUTION: Never work on a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle with special stands.
Place the car on a lift.
2. Check the fuel system and evaporative emission system components for obvious faults. Make sure all connections are tight.
3. Connect T4 to the vehicle.
- Perform DMTL verification.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the DMTL procedure.
CAUTION: Do not smoke or carry a lighted cigarette or open flame of any type when working on or near fuel-related components. There is a risk of ignition of flammable vapors. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
WARNING: The car must be in a well-ventilated, closed area. Signs "No smoking! Gasoline fumes!" must be posted around the car.
CAUTION: Before disconnecting or disassembling parts, make sure that the area around the contact surfaces and connections is clean. To avoid contamination of the system, close all open connections with plugs.
Install the special tool on the purge line.
- Release the clamp and disconnect the purge line.
- Clean the contact surfaces of the parts.
- Attach the special tool.

CAUTION: Before disconnecting or disassembling parts, make sure that the area around the contact surfaces and connections is clean. To avoid contamination of the system, close all open connections with plugs.
Disconnect the purge line from the fuel vapor canister line. Release the clamp.
6. Perform the procedures described in the EVAPS 310-115 Diagnostic Test Station Manual in the specified order. (LRA-19-004) or (LRA-19-005A).
7. Once a leak is detected, replace the part if necessary and repeat the test to ensure that the leak has been completely eliminated.
8. Connect the purge line to the fuel vapor canister line.
- Clean the contact surfaces of the parts.
- Secure with a clamp.
- Clean the contact surfaces of the parts.
- Connect the purge line.
