Removal and installation the starter 4.0L (Discovery 3)

Removal

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.

2.

CAUTION: Never work on a vehicle supported solely by a jack. Always support the vehicle securely.

Raise and support the vehicle.

3. Remove the exhaust system. For more information, refer to Exhaust System (10/30/08)

4. Remove the starter.

• Remove 2 bolts.
• Remove the top terminal cover.
• Remove the bottom terminal cover.
• Unscrew the nut.
• Disconnect the two electrical connectors.

Installation

1. Install the starter.

• Clean the mating surfaces of the elements.
• Connect the electrical connectors.
• Tighten the nut (tightening torque 10 Nm).
• Install the bottom terminal cover.
• Install the top terminal cover.
• Tighten the bolts (tightening torque 45 Nm).

2. Install the exhaust system. For more information, refer to Exhaust System (10/30/08)

3. Connect the ground cable to the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.
