R380 Gearbox Description (Discovery 1)

The five-speed, fully synchronized transmission is paired with a two-speed LT230T transfer case. All gears rotate on needle bearings. The gearbox shafts are mounted on tapered roller bearings. Gear lubrication is carried out forcibly by a built-in low-pressure oil pump. Both boxes have ventilation tubes leading into the engine compartment.
