Shift lock solenoid, neutral switch (fitted on some vehicles) (Discovery 1)

The solenoid and switch are located at the top of the box. Access through the propeller shaft tunnel opening.

Removal



1. Disconnect the battery.

2. Remove the center console.

3. Remove the rear passenger heater ducts.

4. Remove the sound-insulating pads.

5. Unscrew the four screws and remove the gear shift lever.

6. Drill out the rivets securing the tunnel hatch and remove the hatch.

7. Disconnect the solenoid connector.

8. Unscrew the 4 bolts securing the solenoid cover and remove the cover.

9. Remove the solenoid and spring washer.

10. Clean the seat.

Installation



1. Apply Hylosil or equivalent sealant to the solenoid mounting locations.

2. Place the solenoid wire into the cover channel.

3. Install the cover and tighten the mounting bolts to 9 Nm.

4. Reinstall the removed parts.

Neutral position switch



1. Disconnect the switch connector.

2. Remove the switch.

3. Installation in reverse order, tightening torque 25 Nm.

4. Before installation, apply Hylomar PL32/L20 or SL500 sealant to the switch.
