The LT230T transfer case is mounted at the rear of the transmission. The transmission secondary shaft splines engage the transfer case pinion gear. The transfer case drive gear is mounted on the shaft on two tapered bearings. The drive gear engages with the gear of the intermediate shaft of the transfer case. The intermediate shaft rotates on two tapered bearings. The bearing preload is adjusted using a deformable spacer. From the gears of the intermediate shaft, rotation is transmitted to the gears of the upper or lower row of the secondary shaft. The differential and parking brake are mounted on the splines of the secondary shaft. The speedometer cable is driven from the output shaft of the transfer case via a worm gear.
The differential cups are mounted on tapered bearings. The differential compensates for the inequality in the rotation speeds of the front and rear propeller shafts. The differential has a built-in locking mechanism. When the lock is engaged, the power flow between the bridges is distributed equally. The differential lock is achieved by a ratchet mechanism mounted on the front output shaft of the gearbox.
