Front left wheel speed sensor and its electrical cable (Freelander 1)

Dismantling

1. Remove the battery support tray.

2. Raise the front of the vehicle.

CAUTION: Do not work under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle with safety stands.

3. Remove the wheel.

4. Remove the front wheel arch liner.

5. Locate the wheel speed sensor electrical cable on the inner surface of the wing.

6. Release the sensor electrical connector from the clamp secured to the body and disconnect it.

7. Remove the sealing sleeve from the bracket and pull out the electric cable.



8. Remove 2 bushings from the wing fairing and shock absorber bracket.



9. Release the electrical cable from the clamps securing it to the brake hose.



10. Remove the bolt securing the wheel speed sensor to the hub, if present.

11. Release the wheel speed sensor from the hub mounting.

12. Remove the wheel speed sensor and its electrical cable.

13. Remove the bushing from the front wheel hub.

Installation

1. Wipe the wheel speed sensor and its mounting surfaces.

2. Insert the new sleeve into the hub.

3. Apply anti-seize lubricant to the sensor.

4. Install the sensor onto the hub, making sure it is fully seated in its mounting location.

CAUTION: Make sure the wheel speed sensor is fully inserted into the hub, i.e. touching the ring gear.

5. Tighten the wheel speed sensor mounting bolt to the hub, if equipped.

6. Secure the electrical cable bushings to the brackets.

7. Route the electrical cable through the wing bracket and secure the grommet.

8. Make sure the sealing grommet is in place. Connect the electrical connector to the sensor.

9. Secure the connector with a clamp.

10. Secure the electrical cable to the brake hose with clamps.

11. Reinstall the front wheel arch liner.

12. Reinstall the battery support tray.

13. Reinstall the wheel(s) and tighten the nuts to 115 Nm.

14. Remove the supports and lower the vehicle.

15. To ensure that the ABS is working properly, diagnostics MUST be performed using the TestBook/T4 device.
