The power driver's seat with memory is 6-way adjustable and includes the same controls as the non-memory front seat. The seat has a seat control module located under the seat frame that allows up to 3 saved positions to be memorized and recalled.
If exterior mirrors with position memory are installed, the seat control module also initiates movement of the exterior mirrors by transmitting a command signal to the front door control modules when the seat position is recalled. Front door control modules are used to store and recall stored exterior mirror positions. For more information, see the chapter: Rear-view mirrors (501-09 Rear-view mirrors, Description and operation).
Seat control module
The seat control module is connected to the wiring harness between the seat switch box and the seat adjustment motors. The module contains non-volatile memory (EEPROM).
The seat control module monitors seat positions and stores the information provided by the Hall effect sensors in the seat sled. Hall sensors are integrated into the seat adjustment motors. All saved seat positions and current positions of the seat motors are stored in the EEPROM memory.
If there is a power outage, then after its restoration, the positions of the electric motors stored in the EEPROM are taken as the current positions. This allows the relative stored positions to be restored without recalibrating the seat control module.
The seat control module memory can be erased for a service update or read using Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment.
Up to three different seat positions can be stored in the seat control module. Seat positions are memorized when the memory button is pressed (M) and then one of the 3 save buttons (1, 2, 3) within 5 seconds. The memory buttons are located on the switch block. The memory buttons on the switch block allow the driver to control the storage and recall of seat and exterior mirror settings. The switch block buttons are non-latching, self-resetting switches.
On vehicles equipped with a high-level instrument panel, when the ignition is switched on, the commands to store the seat position are displayed on the information center display, the storage of the new seat position is confirmed by a single beep.
NOTE: The low level instrument panel is not fitted to vehicles equipped with a seat position memory system.
For more information, see chapter: Instrument panel (413-01 Instrument panel, Description and function) / Information and message center (413-08 Information and Message Centre, Description and Operation).
The seat control module allows the driver to select the following functions:
- Recall from the memory of the settings for the position of the seat and exterior mirrors.
- Direct seat adjustment.
For further details on the operation of driver-selectable functions, refer to "Work principles".
Seat operation is automatically monitored by the seat control module. The module detects motors that are not responding correctly to a work request and also reduces power consumption during periods of inactivity.
The seat control module provides the following automatic control functions:
- Jamming Detection Mode
- Standby mode
- Battery monitoring mode
For further details on how the automatic control functions work, see "Work principles".
Seat Control Module Calibration
When a seat control module is replaced during maintenance, the new module must be calibrated using Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment. A calibration procedure is required for the seat control module to reset the seat position to its original values.
