NOTE: Generic scan tools cannot read the codes listed or can only read 5-digit codes. Match the 5 digits from the scan tool with the first 5 digits of the listed 7-digit code to identify the fault. (the last 2 digits provide additional information readable by a manufacturer approved diagnostic system).

NOTE: Intermittent malfunctions may cause DTCs to be stored, however, some DTCs may be cleared during an ignition cycle. Perform a road test (if it is safe), check the system functionality and read all DTCs before turning off the ignition.

DTCDescriptionPossible reasonsAction
B1C3173Steering Column Motor Relay
  • Software error (the column electric drive is not installed)
  • Steering Column Motor Relay Malfunction (stuck in on position)
  • When the electric steering column adjustment motor is not installed, no action is required, clear/ignore DTC. When the electric steering column adjustment motor is installed, refer to the electrical manuals and check the steering column motor electrical circuit for a short circuit or open circuit, and check/replace the memory control module if necessary.
