Replacing the rear camshaft oil seal (Freelander 1)

Dismantling


1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. For left cylinder head only: Remove the rear timing belt of the left cylinder head.

3. For right cylinder head only: Remove the rear timing belt of the right cylinder head.

4. Remove the rear camshaft oil seal using the LRT-12-147 puller and the LRT-12-129 bolt.

5. Remove the seal from the LRT-12-147 mandrel and discard it.

Installation


1. Wash the oil seal seat and camshaft.

1. Wash the oil seal seat and camshaft.


2. Check that the protective boot LRT-12-203 for installing oil seals is clean. Install the boot on the camshaft.



3. Install the oil seal and, using the LRT-12-148A mandrel, press it into place.

CAUTION: Do not use the LRT-12-148 tool to install oil seals.


4. Remove the protective boot LRT-12-203 from the camshaft nose.

5. For left cylinder head only: Install the left cylinder head rear timing belt.

6. For right cylinder head only: Install the right cylinder head rear timing belt.

ENGINE KV6 - MODIFICATION K, Left cylinder head camshafts, Right rear timing belt.


7. Connect the negative battery terminal.

8. Add oil to the engine.
