Lower oil pan cover (Freelander 1)

Dismantling

1. Drain the oil from the engine.

MAINTENANCE, Engine Oil and Oil Filter - KV6.

2. If installed: Loosen the 4 nuts securing the oil cooling heat exchanger to the bracket and move the heat exchanger to the side.



3. Unscrew the 2 bolts securing the oil dipstick housing to the cylinder block.

4. Press and hold the shoulders of the oil dipstick retainer, remove the oil dipstick from the pan.



5. In the sequence shown in the figure, remembering the position, unscrew the 10 bolts securing the lower cover of the pan to the pan.



6. Using a mallet, lightly tap the bottom cover of the tray to knock the cover off the sealant layer and remove it.

CAUTION: Do not use a lever to separate the bottom cover from the tray.

Installation

1. Wipe the mating surfaces of the lower oil pan cover and oil pan with a rag soaked in solvent. Do not use a metal scraper to clean the mating surfaces.

2. Apply a continuous bead of STC 4600 sealant 2mm thick along the centre of the mating flange and spread it into an even layer using a roller trowel.

ATTENTION: Assembly of prepared parts must be carried out immediately to prevent contamination of surfaces with applied sealant.

3. Install the bottom cover, screw in the bolts and gradually tighten them to a torque of 35 Nm in the sequence shown in the figure.

4. If equipped: Install the engine oil cooler heat exchanger, fit the nuts and tighten them to 25 Nm.

5. Install the oil dipstick, screw in the bolt and tighten it to a torque of 9 N·m.

6. Fill the engine with oil.
