Removal and installation the fuel injector (Freelander 2)

Avoid open flames, sparks or flammable materials.


After stopping the engine, wait at least one minute before performing any repairs to the fuel injection system.


Clean the area around the element and remove any foreign material. Plug all openings. Use new caps.


Do not disassemble the fuel injectors or clean their nozzles, even with ultrasonic equipment. Install new fuel injectors if necessary.


The fuel injectors should be installed in their original position.


Before storing the nozzle in an upright position, plug the nozzle nozzle to prevent damage.


Fuel injectors should be stored in an upright position and should be capped immediately after removal to prevent fuel leakage.


If a new component has been fitted, configure using Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment.


Bleed the fuel system by cranking the engine to release air from the system.


NOTE: If it is necessary to remove or replace a set of fuel injectors, installation must be performed in pairs. Injectors 2 and 3, 1 and 4, respectively.


Removal


1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging System - General Information, Specifications).

2. Remove the engine trim. Refer to procedure: Engine Cover - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4 (501-05 Interior Trim, Removal and Installation).

4. Remove the high pressure fuel supply line and discard it as no longer needed.



Make sure both ends of the fuel line remain in contact until both union nuts have been removed and the area around the connections has been thoroughly cleaned.


Plug all openings. Use new caps.

Installation


1. Install the fuel injector. Tightening torque: Step 1: 5 Nm. Step 2: 130°

Clean the element from dirt and grease. Install a new sealing washer.


2. Install the new high pressure fuel line, but do not tighten it completely at this stage.

3. Tighten the high pressure fuel line. Tightening torque: Step 1: 22 Nm. Step 2: 25 Nm

4. Connect the return hose and secure it.

5. Install the engine cover. Refer to the procedure: Engine Cover - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4 (501-05 Interior Trim, Removal and Installation).

6. Remove air from the fuel system.

CAUTION: Bleed air from the fuel system by cranking the engine to release air from the system.


7. If a new component has been fitted, configure using Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment.
