The operation of the Stop/Start system may be affected by various selectable functions or driving situations. Depending on the specific circumstances, they may:
  • prevent engine shutdown (stop interlock)
  • initiate autonomous restart (start activator)
  • prevent engine restart (start lock)

Stop blocking


Under normal conditions, the Stop/Start system automatically switches off the engine in the following situations:
  • the car is stationary
  • neutral is on
  • the clutch pedal is fully depressed

The following factors prevent engine stalling:

The driver activated the stop interlock


The following driver actions prevent the engine from stopping:
  • the driver turns off the system "Stop/Start"
  • The transmission is not in neutral (note that the driver with his hand on the gearshift lever can move the transmission out of neutral without engaging a gear)
  • the clutch pedal is not fully depressed
  • the accelerator pedal is pressed
  • the hood is open
  • the driver's door is open
  • the driver's seat belt is not fastened
  • hDC (Hill Descent Control) is on
  • tR mode is on (Terrain Response)
  • the climate control system is being used in excess of calibrated thresholds
  • the windshield defogging function is working
  • trailer electrical connection detected

One of the vehicle's systems has activated the stop interlock


The following vehicle system conditions prevent engine stalling:
  • the driver turns off the system "Stop/Start"
  • brake servo vacuum below threshold
  • the ability of the battery to perform a cold start is below the threshold
  • low battery
  • catalytic converter parameters outside calibration limits before or after calibration
  • dPF (Diesel Particulate Filter/Diesel Particulate Filter) is regenerated
  • engine coolant temperature below threshold
  • engine oil temperature below threshold

Stop interlock activated by environment condition


The following environmental factors prevent engine shutdown:
  • outside temperature above 35°C
  • outside temperature below 4°C

Launch activators


If the engine was turned off during a Stop/Start cycle, the following conditions will cause an early restart to be initiated during the same cycle:

The driver activated the starter switch


The following driver-activated conditions cause an early engine restart:
  • the driver turns off the system "Stop/Start"
  • the vehicle speed exceeds the calibration threshold of 3 km/h (2 mph) (Restart will only occur if the transmission is in neutral and the driver is detected in the vehicle: e.g. seat belt fastened, driver's door locked)
  • vacuum in the brake servo drive is below the threshold value (driver presses the brake pedal)
  • hDC (Hill Descent Control) is on
  • tR mode is on (Terrain Response)
  • high speed heater fan selected; windshield defogging function is enabled

The starter activator is activated by one of the vehicle systems


The following conditions, activated by vehicle systems, cause premature engine restart:
  • the battery's ability to start the engine has reached its lower limit
  • the battery status or charge is approaching the lower threshold
  • the windshield defogging function is activated
  • the temperature in the cabin drops below or rises above the set threshold value

The start activator is turned on by the state of the environment


The following environmental conditions cause premature engine restart:
  • the outside temperature rises above 35°C
  • the outside temperature drops below 4°C



Start blocking


If the engine has been turned off during a Stop/Start cycle, the following conditions will cause the automatic restart to be inhibited:

The driver activated the ignition lock


Automatic engine restart is blocked by the following driver-activated states:
  • the hood is open
  • the brake pedal is pressed
  • the gear selector has been moved from neutral position; the message "Select Neutral To Restart" appears on the dashboard
  • the driver's seat belt is unfastened; this is an automatic restart lock so the engine can be restarted by pressing the clutch pedal
  • the driver's door is not locked; this is an automatic restart lock so the engine can be restarted by pressing the clutch pedal

The start lock has been activated by one of the vehicle's systems


Automatic engine restart is blocked by the following conditions activated by vehicle systems:
  • engine off for more than 5 minutes: standard engine start required
  • system failure
