The starter has a nominal power of 2.0 kW and is manufactured by Denso as a unit with only a sealed pinion. The starter type RA, the design of which includes the offset of the starter and pinion axes. The electromagnet is located directly behind the pinion to ensure a more stable engagement with the flywheel ring gear. The electric motor is directly connected to the satellite, this is a preloaded unit that includes a series-excited electric motor and a clutch.
The starter is mounted on the left side of the flywheel housing and secured with three fastening elements. The pinion protrudes through the opening to drive the flywheel by means of a toothed ring.
A small diameter wire is connected between the engine control module (ECM) and the solenoid valve. The solenoid valve is energized by a voltage signal that is received from the ECM when the starter switch is pressed. When a request to crank the engine is received, the ECM allows the cranking request after checking if a valid mobilization code has been received. The starter motor receives its electrical supply via a large diameter cable which is connected to the positive terminal of the battery. The cable is protected by a sealed fuse type 'CAL3' located on the cable at the battery end. The cable is secured to the electromagnet using a device that prevents the terminal from turning and a nut.
