Valve cover gasket (Discovery 1)

Removal



1. Unscrew the 4 spark plug cover mounting screws.

2. Remove the spark plug cover.

Intake only



3. Disconnect the two crankcase ventilation hoses from the valve cover.

4. Remove the 4 screws securing the manifold support bracket and cover.

5. Remove the support bracket.

6. Unscrew the 8 cover mounting bolts.

Issue only



7. Unscrew the 13 cover mounting bolts.

Both lids



8. Remove the lids and discard the gaskets.

Installation



1. Cover the pushers with cloth.

2. Using an M8x1.25 tap, clean the threads for the bolts.

3. Clean the threaded holes with compressed air.

4. Make sure there is no oil in the threaded holes, remove the cloth from the pushers.

5. Clean the mating surfaces of the head and valve covers.

6. Install new cover gaskets.

7. Replace the valve covers.

Intake only



8. Install the spacer and support bracket.

9. Tighten the mounting bolts by hand.

10. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 10 Nm, in the sequence shown in the figure.

11. Tighten the support bracket bolts.



12. Connect the crankcase ventilation hoses

Issue only



13. Tighten the mounting bolts by hand.

14. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 10 Nm, in the sequence shown in the figure.

Both lids



15. Install the spark plug cover.
