The MPi engine is a four-cylinder, water-cooled engine with an aluminum alloy head and block and two overhead camshafts. Belongs to the "T" series of engines.

The crankshaft has full support, the thrust bearing is located on the middle main journal. The main bearing caps are installed using pins.

The valves are driven by hydraulic tappets, the camshafts are driven by a belt from the crankshaft. The timing belt covers are plastic and are secured with bolts.

The pistons are made of aluminum alloy with two compression rings and one oil scraper ring. The floating piston pin is located eccentrically to the piston axis.

The trachoidal type oil pump is installed at the front of the engine.

The trachoidal type oil pump is installed at the front of the engine.

Lubrication system

Oil from the sump is drawn in by the pump (2) through the intake manifold (1). The pressure in the main oil line is maintained at a predetermined level by a pressure-reducing valve (3) built into the pump. The oil pressure sensor (4) is installed in the oil filter housing (5). Oil is supplied to the connecting rod bearings from main bearings 1, 3, and 5 of the journals (6). Oil is supplied to the cylinder head through the jet (7), where it lubricates the tappets and camshaft bearings (8). The piston pins and cylinder walls are lubricated by splash lubrication.

Crankcase ventilation

The crankcase ventilation is closed, via two hoses connected to the intake manifold and throttle body. An oil catch can is installed in the valve cover.
