GETRAG gear selection mechanism: top link and spherical joints (Freelander 1)

The described procedure also applies to replacing the lower gear selector rod and spherical joints.

Dismantling

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Remove the lower engine guard.

EXTERIOR PARTS, REPAIR WORK, Lower engine protection shield.

3. Remove the left front wheel.



4. Using the LRT-37-050 tool, disconnect the shift rod spherical joint from the gearbox.

5. Using the LRT-37-050 tool, disconnect the spherical joint of the gearshift rod from the mount on the front shield. Remove the rod from the vehicle.

Installation

1. Clean and inspect the tie rod ball joint ends.

2. Clean the rod and ball joint sockets.

3. Lubricate the new spherical sockets, install the rod on the car.

FILLING CAPACITIES, LIQUIDS AND OILS, Lubrication system.

4. Reinstall the left wheel and tighten the nuts to a torque of 115 Nm.

5. Reinstall the lower engine guard.

6. Connect the negative battery terminal.
