GETRAG Back Cover — Removal and Installation (Freelander 1)

Dismantling

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Remove the lower engine guard.

EXTERIOR PARTS, REPAIR WORK, Lower engine protection shield.

3. Remove the left front wheel.



4. Unscrew 3 bolts and remove the mudguard.

5. Remove the battery tray.

ENGINE STARTING AND BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM, REPAIR WORK, Support tray - battery.

6. Install the support stand under the gearbox.



7. Remove the through bolt securing the left engine support to the gearbox.

8. Lower the engine to gain access.

9. Remove the silent block from the support.

10. Place a container to collect the oil.



11. Remove and discard the 8 bolts securing the rear cover to the gearbox housing.



12. Carefully separate the rear cover from the gearbox. Discard the rear cover.

Installation

1. Clean the mating surfaces of the gearbox and rear cover.

2. Check the correct position of the oil channel.

3. Apply a 1mm thick bead of STC 4600 sealant to the gearbox mating surface.

4. Install the new rear cover, screw in the new bolts and tighten them to 25 Nm.

5. Install the silent blocks on the support.

6. Insert the through bolt securing the left engine mount to the gearbox and tighten it to a torque of 100 Nm.

7. Install the battery tray.

ENGINE STARTING AND BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM, REPAIR WORK, Support tray - battery.

8. Add oil to the gearbox.

MAINTENANCE, Manual transmission - GETRAG.

9. Install the mudguard and tighten the mounting bolts to a torque of 10 Nm.

10. Reinstall the wheel(s) and tighten the nuts to 115 Nm.

11. Reinstall the lower engine guard.

12. Connect the negative battery terminal.
