Removal

1. Raise and support the vehicle.

WARNING: Ensure that the vehicle is supported securely.

2. Remove the cover and disconnect the ground cable from the battery. Refer to procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging System - General Information, Specifications).

3. Remove the transmission and torque converter. Refer to procedure: Transmission - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4 (307-01 Automatic/Transaxle Transmission, Installation).

4. Remove the torque converter holder.

5. Remove the torque converter. Special tool: 307-613

Prepare to collect any leaking oil. Plug all openings.

6. Carefully remove and discard the torque converter seal.

Installation

1. Install a new torque converter seal ring. Special tool: 307-597

Maintain absolute cleanliness when handling this element. Clean mating surfaces from foreign material.

2. When installing the torque converter, carefully rotate the torque converter until the oil pump drive engages. Special tool: 307-613

Clean mating surfaces from foreign material. Use extreme caution when handling this component. Align the torque converter with the oil pump drive before installing the torque converter.

3. Install the torque converter holder.



4. Install the transmission and torque converter. Refer to procedure: Transmission - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4 (307-01 Automatic/Transaxle Transmission, Installation).

5. Connect the ground cable to the battery and install the cover. Refer to the procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging System - General Information, Specifications).
