Parking brake mechanism (Discovery 1)

Removal

1. Remove the transfer case.

2. Remove the transfer case shift lever housing.

3. Unscrew the 9 bolts securing the regulator housing.

4. Remove the regulator housing.

5. Remove the gearbox shaft. On a diesel vehicle, remove the spacer.

6. Remove the parking brake adjuster and ratchet.

7. Loosen the guide plate bolt.

8. Remove the guide and spacer.

9. Remove the pin, pawl and pawl spring.

10. Inspect the parts and replace if necessary.

Installation

11. Install the pawl pin and spring.

12. Install the pawl on the finger and insert the spring antenna into the hole in the pawl. Make sure there is tension on the spring.



13. Install the spacer and guide plate. Tighten the mounting bolt to a torque of 10 Nm.

14. Install the regulator box.

15. Install the regulator body with a new gasket.

16. Install the O-ring and spacer (Tdi) onto the output shaft bolt. Tighten the bolt.

17. Tighten the regulator housing mounting bolts.

18. Reinstall the removed parts.
