Power transmission in the transfer case

Power transmission in the transfer case

Primary torque from the gearbox is transmitted to the transfer case input shaft and then to the sun gear and planetary gears. The planetary gears are locked in place by planetary gear pinions connected to the differential cup and drive the differential gears. Torque is distributed to the front and rear carriers connected to the transfer case output shafts. The rear carrier is connected directly to the rear output flange.; the front carrier is connected to the sprocket and therefore to the chain drive, which ensures rotation of the front output flange.
