Examination
1. Disconnect "negative" battery terminal.
2. Turn the steering wheel to the extreme right position.
3. Turn away 3 bolts and remove a splash guard.
4. Rotate the crankshaft enough turns to check the condition of the attachment drive belt. Replace a belt that shows signs of wear, delamination, or oil contamination.
5. Check the belt length. The belt must be replaced before the indicator reaches the right edge of the groove.
6. Install the mudguard and tighten the bolts.
7. Set the steering wheel to the straight ahead position.
8. Attach "negative" battery terminal.
Dismantling
1. Disconnect "negative" battery terminal.
2. Remove the hydraulic booster pump drive belt.
STEERING, Steering Gear, Drive Belt (for models with K1.8 engine).
3. Install a 13 mm wrench on the hex of the tensioner and, turning in the direction of the corresponding clockwise movement, loosen the belt tension.
4. Lock the tensioner in this position using a suitable pin, not exceeding 3mm in diameter, by inserting it into the hole in the tensioner support.
5. Remove the accessory drive belt.
Installation
1. Clean the grooves of the drive belt pulleys and check that they are not damaged.
CAUTION: Check the condition of the belt for wear. Cracks in the side of the belt are not damage. A drive belt that has lost or missing parts must be replaced.
2. Install the drive belt. Make sure the belt is correctly positioned in the pulley grooves.
3. Release the tension, remove the fixing pin and lower the tensioner onto the belt surface.
4. Install the hydraulic booster pump drive belt.
