Checking and restoring the working fluid level
CAUTION: Avoid prolonged contact of your skin with mineral oil. Mineral oils strip the skin of its natural oils, causing dryness, irritation and dermatitis.
1. Raise the car on a lift.
2. Apply the parking brake and place chocks under the front and rear wheels.
3. Remove the lower engine protection shield.

4. Connect the TestBook/T4 diagnostic tool to measure the temperature of the working fluid in the box.
CAUTION: The working fluid level should only be checked when the working fluid temperature is between 35° and 45°. The measured working fluid level will not correspond to the true position if the temperature value is out of the specified range.
5. Start the engine and move the selector lever from position "P" to other positions, holding in each position for 2-3 seconds. Return the selector lever to position "P".
6. Wipe the surface around the fluid level plug.
7. With the engine running, unscrew the level plug with a special key (such as Allen) and release excess working fluid from the gearbox.
CAUTION: There are several similar fasteners/plugs on the bottom of the automatic transmission. It is very important to find and unscrew, even before checking the working fluid level in the transmission, the plug that is required to perform this operation. Unscrewing another fastener/plug leads to serious internal damage to the transmission.
8. If, with the level plug unscrewed, the working fluid does not flow out:
9. Unscrew the filler plug and add working fluid until it starts pouring out of the level control hole.
When refilling the transmission fluid after replacing the air-oil cooler (model Td4 for operation in hot climates), it is necessary to add 420 cc of working fluid. The temperature of the working fluid in the box must reach 80°C for the cooler valve to open.
10. Again move the selector lever from position "P" to each subsequent position and, returning to position "P", drain the excess working fluid.
11. Install the level plug and tighten it to 14 Nm.
12. Clean and reinstall the filler plug.
13. Disconnect the TestBook/T4 diagnostic tool.
14. Reinstall the lower engine protection shield.
