Oil filter — removal and installation (Freelander 1)

Dismantling

1. Raise the vehicle on a four-post lift.

2. Remove the lower engine guard.

3. Place a container under the oil filter to collect any leaking oil.

4. Using a loop wrench, unscrew and discard the oil filter.

CAUTION: Avoid prolonged contact of your skin with used motor oil. Used motor oil contains harmful substances that can cause skin cancer or other serious skin diseases.

Installation

1. Grind the mating surface for installing the filter.

2. Fill the filter with clean motor oil.

3. Lubricate the new oil filter O-ring with clean engine oil.

4. Screw on the new oil filter and tighten it by hand until it makes full contact with the sealing surface, then tighten the filter another half turn.

5. Remove the oil collection container from under the engine.

6. Reinstall the lower engine guard.

7. Lower the car lift.

8. Start the engine to check for oil leaks.

9. Turn off the engine. Wait a few minutes, check the oil level. Add oil if necessary.
