Driver warnings are the same on all vehicles equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system: The driver receives a warning from the low tire pressure warning light along with a corresponding text message in the message center display.
The TPMS software in the CJB communicates system status information to the instrument cluster via the medium speed CAN bus. The instrument panel then converts this data and illuminates the warning lamp and displays the corresponding message.
When the ignition is turned on, the control light comes on for 3 seconds to check.
NOTE: On vehicles not equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system, this warning lamp does not come on.
During the three seconds that the lamp test is running, the instrument cluster checks for a message sent by the TPMS on the CAN bus. At this time, the system performs an internal check and initialization of the CAN bus. The warning lamp will turn off if the TPMS software does not display a fault or tire pressure warning message.
If the instrument panel receives a TPMS malfunction warning message with the ignition on, after a 3 second check, the warning lamp will flash for 75 seconds and then become permanently lit.
If the instrument panel receives a tire pressure warning message with the ignition on, after a 3-second test, the warning lamp will go out briefly before returning to indicate a tire pressure warning.
The table below illustrates the operation of the pilot lamp for these situations:
Situation | Indication on the instrument panel |
High speed low pressure limit reached | The control lamp lights up. The message appears "TYRE PRESSURES LOW FOR SPEED" (LOW TIRE PRESSURE FOR THIS SPEED). |
Low pressure limit reached in one of the wheels while driving at low speed | The control lamp lights up. The message appears "CHECK ALL TYRE PRESSURES XX LOW" (CHECK TIRE PRESSURE XX). |
More than one wheel pressure limit reached while driving at low speed | The control lamp lights up. The message appears "CHECK ALL TYRE PRESSURES" (CHECK THE PRESSURE IN ALL TIRES). |
The air pressure limit has been reached in one of the "workers" wheels, wheel location not detected by TPMS | The control lamp lights up. The message appears "CHECK ALL TYRE PRESSURES" (CHECK THE PRESSURE IN ALL TIRES). |
Spare tire pressure limit reached (in the presence of) | The control lamp burns within 20 seconds and lights up again in each subsequent cycle of ignition. The message center display shows: "CHECK SPARE TYRE PRESSURE" (CHECK SPARE TIRE PRESSURE). |
TPMS malfunction | The control lamp flashes for 75 seconds, after which it starts to burn constantly. The message appears: "TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM FAULT" (TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING FAULT). |
No transmission from a specific tire pressure sensor or malfunction of a specific tire pressure sensor | The control lamp flashes for 75 seconds, after which it starts to burn constantly. The message appears for 20 seconds: "XX TYRE PRESSURE NOT MONITORED" (BUS XX NOT CONTROLLED). |
No transmission from more than one tire pressure sensor or malfunction of more than one tire pressure sensor | The yellow indicator lamp flashes for 75 seconds, after which it becomes permanently lit. The message appears for 20 seconds: "TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM FAULT" (TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING FAULT). |
No CAN signals | The control lamp flashes for 75 seconds, after which it starts to burn constantly. The message appears for 20 seconds: "TYRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM FAULT" (TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING FAULT). |
NOTE: "XX" indicates the location of the tire on the vehicle, such as front left, front right, rear left, or rear right.
