Removal

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging System - General Information, Specifications).

2. Raise and support the vehicle.

WARNING: Ensure that the vehicle is supported securely.

3. Remove the transmission. Refer to procedure: Transmission (308-03 Manual/Transaxle Transmission, Removal).

CAUTION: Discard bolts.

NOTE: The clutch pressure plate bolts should be loosened two turns at a time and in the sequence shown. Secure the flywheel.

Installation

1. Check and, if necessary, return the clutch pressure plate to its original position.

NOTE: The clutch housing is self-adjusting. It is recommended that the clutch disc and clutch housing be replaced as a set. If a used clutch housing is to be installed with a new clutch disc, the clutch housing must be adjusted before assembly. With the clutch housing resting on the outer edge, apply even pressure to the diaphragm with your fingers as shown in the illustration so that the adjusting ring of the clutch housing can rotate fully counterclockwise. After fixing the adjusting ring in this position, release the pressure on the diaphragm. The adjusting ring must be held in this position until the self-adjustment of the clutch pedal is complete.

2. Clean the mating surfaces of the elements.

Inspect the flywheel and make sure there are no burrs or signs of overheating. Replace the flywheel if it is worn or damaged.

Inspect the clutch release bearing to ensure it is not damaged or showing signs of wear. Replace if necessary.

3. Special tool: 308-667. Tightening torque: 23 Nm

Use new bolts. Install the clutch disc with the 'TRANSMISSION SIDE' marking facing the clutch housing.

NOTE: Secure the flywheel. Tighten the clutch pressure plate mounting bolts in the sequence shown, turning each bolt two turns to the specified tightening torque.

4. Remove the special tools. Special tool: 303-1272



5. Install the gearbox in the block with the drive axle. Refer to the procedure: Transmission (308-03 Manual transmission/ gearbox in a block with a drive axle, Installation).

6. Connect the ground cable to the battery. Refer to Procedure: Specifications (414-00 Charging System - General Information, Specifications).
