Coolant pump 4.0L (Discovery 3)

Removal

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.

CAUTION: Never work on or under a vehicle that is supported solely by a jack. Always support the vehicle securely.

Raise and support the vehicle.

CAUTION: Never remove the coolant expansion tank cap when the system is hot, as steam or coolant escaping from the cap could cause serious injury, such as scalding.

Drain the cooling system. For more information, refer to Draining/Filling Coolant and Bleeding the Cooling System (10/26/01)

4. Remove the accessory drive belt. For more information, refer to Accessory Drive Belt (86.10.03)

5. Remove the bolt from the power steering line clamp. When removing the coolant pump, move the line to the side.

6. Remove the coolant pump.

• Disconnect the coolant manifold hose from the coolant pump.
• Remove 12 bolts.
• Discard the gasket.

NOTE: Do not perform further disassembly if the part is removed only for access.

Remove the coolant pump pulley.

• Remove and discard 4 bolts.
• Remove the coolant pump cover hose.

Installation

1. Install the parts in place in reverse order.

• Install the coolant pump pulley.
• Clean the contact surfaces of the parts.
• Install a new gasket.

2. Tighten the coolant pump mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 10 Nm.

3. Tighten the coolant pump pulley mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm.

4. Install the power steering pipe. Tighten the bolt. (tightening torque 10 Nm).

5. Install the accessory drive belt. For more information, refer to Accessory Drive Belt (86.10.03)

6. Fill the cooling system. For more information, refer to Draining/Filling Coolant and Bleeding the Cooling System (10/26/01)

7. Connect the ground cable to the battery. For more information, refer to Specification.
