The CMP sensor is mounted at the front of the engine, behind the exhaust camshaft drive pulley. The tip of the sensor passes through a hole in the cylinder head cover and is located near the impulse zone of the camshaft pulley. The position of the sensor relative to the camshaft pulley is adjustable.
For more information on adjusting the CMP sensor gap, refer to the appropriate Service Repair Procedures (SRP) manual.
This is a variable reluctance sensor that generates a camshaft position signal for cylinder #1 to the ECM. The ECM uses this information to determine the precise timing of fuel injection as the crankshaft is cranked. For more information, refer to: Electronic Engine Controls (303-14 Electronic Engine Controls - 2.2L Duratorq - Td4, Description and Operation).
