The high-pressure fuel pump is secured with three bolts to the right rear of the cylinder head and is driven by the exhaust camshaft. The pump housing consists of a flange and a cylindrical housing in which the pump drive shaft is located. The drive shaft housing projects into the cylinder head and is sealed with an O-ring.
A drive disc is mounted at the end of the drive shaft and is connected to a corresponding groove at the end of the exhaust camshaft.
A high-pressure fuel pump is equipped with a high-impact shield in front of it, which provides protection in the event of a frontal collision.
The fuel pump is a radial, three-piston pump that delivers fuel to the fuel rail and is controlled by the ECM. For more information, refer to the chapter:
