The crankshaft is supported by four main bearings, and each pair of connecting rod journals is offset from each other by 30 degrees, which ensures equal firing intervals. The crankshaft is cast from spheroidal graphite iron (SG) and has cold-rolled fillets on all journals except the outer main journals, providing rigidity and strength. Nine crankshaft counterweights improve its smoothness and reduce bearing wear, since the load is evenly distributed between the bearings. A thrust washer halves the axial clearance at the top and bottom of the third main bearing.
The upper and lower parts of all main bearing shells are provided with oil grooves, through which oil is supplied through holes in the crankshaft to the bearings of the lower connecting rod heads.
