Ignition Lock Cable (Freelander 1)

Dismantling

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Remove the front console.

3. Loosen the cable clamp mounting bolt.

4. Disconnect the cable from the ignition lock mechanism.

5. Remove the key from the ignition switch.

6. Remove the upper and lower parts of the steering column cover.

7. Loosen the steering column tilt adjustment lever mounting bolt and remove the lever.

NOTE: This thread is left hand.

8. Loosen the nut of the adjusting mechanism clamping bolt and remove the bolt.

9. Save the plastic stopper.

10. Loosen the fastening and disconnect the cable from the steering wheel lock mechanism.

11. Release the cable from the 2 clamps.

12. Remember the location of the cable, route the cable under the heater and the steering shaft mounting bracket.

13. Remove the cable.

Installation

1. Install the cable, align its position relative to the heater and the steering shaft mounting bracket and secure it in the clamps.

2. Connect the ignition lock cable to the steering column and tighten it to a torque of 4 Nm.

3. Install the adjuster clamp bolt and tighten the nut to 10 Nm. Make sure the bolt and plastic stopper are correctly positioned in the hole in the steering shaft mounting bracket.

4. Install the tilt steering column adjustment lever and tighten the bolt to a torque of 12 N·m. Before tightening the bolt, turn the lever to the uppermost position. Hold the pinch bolt nut to prevent it from turning.

5. Connect the cable to the ignition lock mechanism.

6. Check the ignition lock cable adjustment.
